Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the youth will play a decisive role in shaping India’s journey towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat’, urging young graduates to keep learning and align their choices with the country’s needs.
Addressing the convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Modi said rapid technological advancement and changing global strategic equations would create both challenges and opportunities for the younger generation.
More than 3,000 students, including 587 PhD scholars, received their degrees at the ceremony.
“The world’s strategic equations are changing quickly, and the global balance of power is shifting every moment. The biggest force behind this transformation is the rapid pace of technology,” Modi said.
He noted that it was difficult to predict what the world would look like over the next two to three decades, but stressed that continuous learning would remain essential as industries, professions and technology evolve.
“Those who keep learning will succeed,” the Prime Minister said.
Modi also highlighted the national responsibility of the graduating students, saying their decisions over the next three decades would have a bearing on India’s development.
“Whatever you do over the next 30 to 35 years of your lives will influence our journey towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’. Hence, every decision you make should also be focussed on how it will benefit the country,” he said.
The Prime Minister underlined research and innovation as key opportunities for young Indians and referred to initiatives including the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship, the Research, Development and Innovation Scheme and the National Research Foundation.
He said funding of up to Rs 1 lakh crore was being arranged for the research sector and highlighted the ‘One Nation, One Subscription’ initiative, under which access to global research journals is being extended to institutions across the country.
Modi also presented academic honours to meritorious IIT Delhi students, including the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal and Perfect Ten Gold Medal.
He additionally virtually inaugurated ‘Param Pragya’, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus, aimed at strengthening capabilities in artificial intelligence, data science, advanced computing and interdisciplinary research.
