A student leader on an indefinite hunger strike against alleged irregularities in Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) recruitment examinations was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Ranchi Sadar Hospital after his health condition deteriorated on Friday.
The student, Rahul Kranti from Palamu, was taken to the hospital by ambulance from Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, where he had been observing an indefinite fast since Tuesday night as part of a student protest demanding a fair and transparent recruitment process.
Fellow protesters said Rahul’s condition worsened suddenly on Friday, with severe dizziness reported whenever he attempted to stand. Following medical advice, protest organisers decided to shift him to the hospital for urgent treatment.
Another protester, B. Pandey, also fell ill while participating in the demonstration and was taken for medical attention. Continuous rainfall at the protest venue further affected the health of demonstrators, with another student, Braj Kishore from Koderma, also requiring hospitalisation.
After receiving information about the condition of the protesting students, Jharkhand Health Minister Irfan Ansari visited the hospital and instructed doctors to provide proper medical care.
Later, Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi also reached Ranchi Sadar Hospital, met the students and took updates from doctors regarding their health.
Supporting the students’ demands, Marandi appealed to the fasting protesters not to put their lives at risk, saying that their fight for justice would require sustained efforts and they should preserve their health for the longer struggle.
Marandi alleged that students and job aspirants had lost confidence in the state’s examination and recruitment system and urged the Jharkhand government to adopt a more sensitive approach towards their concerns.
The BJP leader further claimed that several recruitment examinations conducted in Jharkhand since 2019 had faced allegations of irregularities. He said the ongoing protest represented the concerns of thousands of young people seeking employment opportunities and a transparent recruitment process.
