The Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday conducted searches at multiple locations across the Kashmir Valley in connection with a case involving the alleged online glorification of terrorism and efforts to influence individuals to join terrorist organisations.
Officials said the raids were carried out in Baramulla, Shopian, Anantnag, Kupwara, Bandipora and other districts as part of the investigation into FIR No. 03/2023 registered at Police Station CIK Srinagar.
The case was registered under Sections 505 and 153-A of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 13 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Investigators are examining the alleged misuse of online platforms to glorify terrorism and encourage recruitment into terrorist ranks.
The searches were conducted on the basis of court warrants, with officials seeking digital evidence and communication devices that could help establish links in the alleged network.
The CIK is a specialised unit of the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), tasked with investigating terror networks, terror financing and anti-national activities in the Valley. Its responsibilities include detecting covert recruitment modules, examining suspected white-collar terror operations and tracing cross-border handler networks.
The unit also monitors technical signatures, investigates the misuse of encrypted communication platforms and targets cyber-fraud networks allegedly linked to terror financing.
The CID is the principal intelligence wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and functions under an officer of the rank of Additional Director General. It operates through the Special Branch and Counter-Intelligence units across Jammu and Kashmir.
While the Special Branch focuses on political and other sensitive intelligence, the Counter-Intelligence wing deals with counter-terrorism, espionage, contraband smuggling and cross-border activities. The CID also undertakes statutory and administrative verifications related to service matters, passports, visas, NRIs, migration and threat assessments.
