Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will visit Meerut on Saturday to shower flower petals on Kanwariyas as the annual Kanwar Yatra continues across the region.
His visit has prompted the district administration and police to intensify security arrangements, with large numbers of police personnel, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and other security forces deployed at key locations.
The Kanwar Yatra has been passing through Meerut for nearly a week, with large numbers of Shiva devotees travelling through the district carrying holy water from the Ganga. Officials have been placed on alert ahead of the Chief Minister’s programme, while security and traffic arrangements have been strengthened along routes being used by Kanwariyas and the VIP convoy.
Senior administrative and police officials have inspected the venue and major routes and reviewed arrangements to ensure the smooth movement of devotees while maintaining adequate security during Yogi Adityanath’s visit.
Security personnel have been deployed at sensitive points and along important stretches, while traffic management has received particular attention amid the increasing movement of Kanwariyas.
Security arrangements have also been strengthened in Delhi along the Kanwar Yatra route. At Chintamani Chowk in Shahdara, police and traffic personnel have been deployed to regulate movement and maintain security as devotees pass through the area.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Sah-Zila Mantri Anmol Dubey said flower showers had become part of the arrangements during the Kanwar Yatra in recent years. He said the practice was also expected to continue this year.
Dubey also claimed that Delhi Police personnel had participated in flower showers last year, along with VHP workers.
With the Kanwar Yatra continuing, authorities in Meerut and Delhi are maintaining heightened security and traffic arrangements to facilitate the movement of devotees and prevent disruptions along major routes.
