Thousands of youths gathered at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on Friday to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak, with several political leaders and public figures joining the protest.
Holding the Tricolour and singing the National Anthem, protesters reiterated their demand for accountability and reforms in the examination system.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, Aaditya Thackeray, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Amit Thackeray, Tushar Gandhi, actor Atul Kulkarni and Sharmila Thackeray were among those present at the gathering.
During the protest, Aaditya Thackeray spoke over the phone with Collective Justice Platform (CJP) representative Abhijit Dipke, who is in Delhi. Dipke said CJP leaders had met Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and reiterated that the students’ demand for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation remained non-negotiable.
Addressing the gathering, Uddhav Thackeray alleged that students protesting in Delhi had faced police action and said the government must respond to the “voice of the people.”
Aaditya Thackeray said Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike may have ended, but the movement for examination reforms would continue. He urged protesters to remain united until the Union Education Minister resigned.
MNS leader Amit Thackeray praised the students for sustaining the agitation, saying their movement had compelled the government to respond. He assured the protesters of support and joined them in singing the National Anthem.
The nationwide protests over the alleged NEET paper leak have continued for over a month, with students demanding transparency, accountability and comprehensive reforms in the examination system.
