Chandigarh/Amritsar, July 23, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug-free state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Rural Police has busted two narcotics networks with the arrest of three individuals including a woman, and recovered 6.5 kg heroin and ₹9.90 lakh drug money from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday.

Those arrested have been identified as Shamsher Singh alias Shera and Charanjit Kaur alias Sharanjit Kaur, both residents of Bachiwind in Amritsar; and Jasvinder Singh, a resident of Rayya in Amritsar. Apart from recovering narcotics and drug money, police teams have also impounded their Hyundai Creta car.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages in both the cases to identify all associates involved, and dismantle the entire supply chain.

Sharing details of first operation, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said that acting on reliable inputs about the involvement of suspects Shamsher alias Shera and Charanjit Kaur alias Sharanjit Kaur in drug smuggling, police teams laid a naka in the jurisdiction of Police Station Ajnala and apprehended duo when they were travelling in their Creta car. During search of the car, police teams have recovered 6 kg heroin, he said.

In another operation, the SSP said that accused Jasvinder Singh was arrested with 510 grams of heroin and Rs 9,90,000 drug money from Rayya area. More arrests and recoveries are likely in coming days as investigation progresses, he added.
