A fire partially damaged the helipad terminal at Katra in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district early Sunday. The facility is used to ferry pilgrims to the hilltop Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
According to local sources, the fire was noticed around 3.15 a.m. Personnel present at the site, assisted by fire and emergency services, brought the flames under control shortly afterwards.
The helipad terminal, an important transit point for pilgrims travelling to the shrine atop the Trikuta Hills, was closed when the incident occurred.
No casualties have been reported so far. The extent of the damage is being assessed, while an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire. A short circuit is suspected.
The incident comes after a similar fire near a helipad at Ram Katha Park in Ayodhya in June, shortly before the scheduled landing of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Officials had said the blaze began near the helipad and spread towards the nearby Saryu Guest House.
Security personnel initially attempted to contain the fire before fire brigade teams arrived and extinguished it. No injuries or loss of life were reported in that incident.
In another recent fire incident, a massive blaze broke out at Sethi Complex Manihari Katla, also known as Purohit Ji Ka Katla, in Jaipur’s Tripolia Bazaar. More than 20 shops and warehouses, including clothing warehouses, plastic goods shops and bangle stores, were reportedly affected.
According to initial information, the Jaipur fire started among goods stored in cartons outside a clothing shop on the second floor.
