Palestinian leaders and officials have welcomed India’s longstanding support and underscored the importance of its development partnership during Ministry of External Affairs Secretary Sripriya Ranganathan’s official visit to Palestine.
Ranganathan on Thursday inaugurated a Government of India-supported Quick Impact Project at the Jericho Women’s Charitable Society School in Jericho, along with Hussein Hamayel, Governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley.
The project has upgraded educational facilities and provided computers and other essential equipment to improve the learning environment. It is the eighth Quick Impact Project completed by India in Palestine.
Earlier, Ranganathan visited the Palestine-India Techno Park, highlighting its role in promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and technological development. She also paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at his bust in Ramallah alongside Ramallah Mayor Jack Saadeh.
During the visit, the Secretary reviewed India’s completed and ongoing flagship development projects in Palestine, with cooperation spanning healthcare, development, skills and capacity building and community engagement.
A major development came on Wednesday with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Indian Super Speciality Hospital in Arrabeh, Jenin. The Government of India-funded project is being implemented pursuant to a commitment made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Ranganathan also met Palestinian Health Minister Majed Abu Ramadan to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in healthcare, including training. She conveyed India’s decision to organise a prosthetic limb camp in Palestine and donate a Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita and Maitri (BHISHM) Cube, a mobile health centre, for use in Gaza. She also handed over the first tranche of life-saving medicines.
India’s development partnership with Palestine also covers education, institution building, vocational training and women’s empowerment. Under the “School-in-a-Box” initiative with Palestine’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education, digital educational resources are being provided to support modern learning environments, particularly in schools in Gaza.
Ranganathan also visited India-funded projects including the India-Palestine Centre for Empowering Women ‘Turathi’ and the Palestinian Institute of Diplomacy.
Palestinian officials expressed appreciation for India’s continued support, particularly its contribution to strengthening public services, institutional capacity and development priorities.
The Representative Office of India said New Delhi remains committed to initiatives that respond to Palestinian priorities, strengthen institutions and public services and contribute to improving people’s lives.
