The inaugural Assam Premier League (APL) has announced a prize purse of Rs 50 lakh for the champions and Rs 25 lakh for the runners-up, adding further incentive as the state’s premier T20 tournament enters its knockout stage.
Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Secretary Sanatan Das announced the prize money on Thursday.
Guwahati Royals, Dibrugarh Warriors, Barak Legends and Barpeta Braves have secured the top four positions after a competitive league phase and will face each other in the semi-finals on Friday. The two winners will advance to the final on August 23, with the inaugural APL champions to be crowned at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium.
Jorhat Stallions, Tezpur Titans, Nagaon Rangers and Charaideo Sunrisers have been eliminated after failing to qualify for the knockout stage.
Organised by the ACA, the 23-day tournament features eight franchises and 43 matches. During the league stage, each team played every other side once.
The competition has also attracted attention from scouts representing major Indian Premier League franchises, who are monitoring emerging players ahead of the IPL auction scheduled to be held later this year.
The APL was launched with the objective of providing a prominent platform to emerging cricketers from Assam and the wider region, while expanding the talent pool available for the state’s white-ball teams and age-group squads.
The final will be played on Sunday following a rest day on Saturday.
Among the prominent attractions of the tournament have been former Assam Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy captain Denish Das, wicketkeeper-batter Sumit Ghadigaonkar and Sibsankar Roy.
India batting all-rounder Riyan Parag, who is from Guwahati, did not feature in the inaugural edition as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery. He sustained the injury while leading Rajasthan Royals during IPL 2026.
