Actress Sayani Gupta is set to make her US feature film debut with Arya, a project she has described as a “glorious gift from the universe”.
Sayani shared a screenshot of a report about the film on Instagram, revealing that the project has been keeping her busy. Reflecting on the significance of the opportunity, she wrote that firsts are always special and described Arya as “one glorious gift from the universe”.
Written and directed by Neil Tuli, Arya is being filmed in Duluth, Minnesota. The film follows Arya Sinha, a disciplined piano teacher from a prestigious Indian conservatory who reluctantly accepts an assignment in northern Minnesota.
She hopes the move will help revive a struggling school band programme while also advancing her career ambitions in India. However, confronted by an unfamiliar and chaotic environment, Arya is forced to relinquish her need for control, confront personal insecurities and develop a new perspective on success.
The film marks Tuli’s feature directorial debut. He has previously held strategy positions at Netflix and Illumination. Arya is being produced under his American Haathi banner in collaboration with Pallavi and Keertana Sastry of Adda G Productions, known for Land of Gold.
Sayani has earned recognition for performances in projects including Delhi Crime and Axone. Her recent work includes the final season of Four More Shots Please! and Delhi Crime Season 3.
Four More Shots Please! follows four women as they navigate relationships, careers, mistakes and friendship in Mumbai. Delhi Crime, meanwhile, centres on police officer Vartika Chaturvedi and her team as they investigate challenging cases amid public and political pressure. The series won the International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series.
