Ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s first visit to the United States as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, a dedicated team from the Congress party’s overseas division, including leaders and tour strategists, is currently in India. Their mission is to maximize the impact of Rahul Gandhi’s engagements in the US by leveraging local resources and meticulous planning.

Rajwinder Singh, a key member of this team who is currently in Punjab after touring South India, shared insights into their strategy. “We’re connecting with NRIs who are in India and their families to gather their concerns and perspectives,” he said. “Our goal is for Rahul Gandhi to raise these issues with US lawmakers, especially Democratic Party candidates, ensuring that the voices of the Indian diaspora are heard and addressed.”

He emphasized that these insights will be instrumental in helping the LoP bring the concerns of the NRI community to the forefront and ensuring they receive the attention they deserve.

Highlighting the team’s objective to strengthen ties between the Indian-American community and US political figures, Rajwinder stated, “Our aim is to ensure that Gandhi’s visit is both impactful and meaningful by conveying the diaspora’s concerns to Kamala Harris, with whom Rahul might have a meeting.”

It has been reported that Rahul Gandhi recently had a telephonic conversation with Kamala Harris, who is a US Democratic presidential candidate.

Mohinder Singh Gilzian, President of the Indian Overseas Congress in the US, expressed that Gandhi is dedicated to thoroughly examining the challenges faced by the five million Indian-Americans living in the United States.

“Rahul intends to engage with people across various sectors, similar to his approach in India,” Gilzian explained. “He aims to understand the reasons behind Indians moving abroad, explore these issues in depth, and evaluate what the Indian government can do to encourage them to stay in India and contribute to its development while living there.”

According to a statement from Sam Pitroda, Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC), Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the US will be brief. He will be in Dallas on September 8 and in Washington DC on September 9 and 10. During his time in Dallas, Gandhi will interact with students, academics, and community members at the University of Texas, participate in a large community gathering, meet with technocrats, and have dinner with local leaders. In Washington DC, similar engagements are planned with a variety of individuals and groups.
