A crucial meeting of the Punjab Cabinet has been scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2025, at 12 noon at the Chief Minister’s official residence in Chandigarh. The session holds significance as Punjab continues to grapple with a severe flood crisis that has claimed dozens of lives and impacted lakhs across the state.
CM Mann to Attend from Hospital
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who remains admitted at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, will not physically attend but has confirmed his participation through video conferencing. Despite his illness, Mann has been closely monitoring flood relief and rescue operations, reaffirming his commitment to governance.
“Serving the people remains my top priority,” the Chief Minister said, assuring that he is personally overseeing relief measures even from the hospital.

The meeting is expected to deliberate on:
- Immediate relief measures for flood-hit families.
- Compensation packages for those who have lost lives, homes, and livelihoods.
- Long-term planning to restore normalcy and strengthen infrastructure against future disasters.
Background: CM Mann’s Health Condition
On September 5, CM Mann was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Fortis Mohali after suffering from a high fever and deteriorating health. For two days prior, he had been receiving treatment at his official residence but was shifted to the hospital for closer observation.
A video clip showed the Chief Minister arriving at the hospital in his official convoy, wearing a mask, and walking inside under tight security. Senior officials including Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav and Mohali Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal reached the hospital shortly after.
Cancelled Engagements Due to Illness
Because of his condition, several important engagements had been cancelled, including the Punjab Cabinet meeting scheduled for September 5 and a field visit to flood-hit areas of Sultanpur Lodhi and Kapurthala with AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal.
Kejriwal later revealed that Mann’s health deteriorated after continuous tours of flood-hit regions over three to four days without proper rest or meals. He urged the CM to take rest but added that Mann’s foremost concern even in illness was the welfare of Punjab’s people.
Punjab Flood Situation
Punjab is currently battling one of its worst floods in decades. Official reports confirm 43 deaths, with 1,698 villages in 23 districts inundated, affecting more than 3.80 lakh residents. Relief camps, medical services, and rescue operations are underway at full scale.
CM Mann has directed that a gazetted officer be deployed in every marooned village to directly supervise relief and ensure effective communication between authorities and affected communities.
The upcoming Cabinet meeting is being seen as a decisive step in steering the state’s response and rehabilitation efforts at this critical juncture.
