Veteran actress Simi Garewal has remembered late actor Vinod Khanna, describing him as not just her co-star but also her neighbour and friend.
Simi recently responded to a social media post marking Vinod Khanna’s birth anniversary. A fan shared the romantic song ‘Wada Kar Le Sajna’, featuring the two actors in their 1974 film ‘Haath Ki Safai’, and recalled their on-screen pairing.
Resharing the post on X, Simi wrote, “Thank you. I miss him. Vinod was my co-star, my neighbour..and my friend.”
Directed by Prakash Mehra, ‘Haath Ki Safai’ featured Vinod Khanna as Shankar and Simi as Roma, alongside Randhir Kapoor and Hema Malini.
Their association extended beyond the film. Vinod had also appeared on Simi’s popular chat show with his second wife, Kavita Khanna. During the conversation, the actor spoke about several chapters of his life, including his rise in Bollywood, his decision to take a break from films and spend time at the Osho commune in Oregon, and his later entry into politics.
Kavita, meanwhile, spoke about Vinod’s philosophical nature and his tendency to constantly question and explore ideas. She recalled that while his intellectual curiosity was one of the qualities that drew her to him, it could also make everyday life challenging.
“He is a very taxing person to live with. But that is Vinod and that is what I liked about him when we first started talking to each other,” she had said.
Vinod Khanna, one of Hindi cinema’s prominent stars, died on April 27, 2017, after battling cancer. His legacy continues to be remembered through his films and the personal memories shared by those who knew him.
