Gaurav Gogoi questions Centre’s accountability over NEET issue

New Delhi, June 25, 2026
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday launched a fresh attack on the Centre over alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), accusing the government of failing to demonstrate accountability on issues affecting students and the wider public.

Addressing reporters in the national capital, Gogoi said the Congress would continue to raise concerns over the alleged NEET paper leak and the manner in which the government has handled the controversy.

He alleged that the Centre had not provided satisfactory answers to concerns raised by students and their families, adding that accountability was a fundamental requirement in a democratic system.

“If the government is unwilling to respond to genuine public concerns, it must explain its commitment to democratic accountability,” he said.

The Congress leader claimed the NEET controversy reflected broader issues in the country’s examination and recruitment processes.

He alleged that repeated concerns about competitive examinations had weakened public confidence in the institutions responsible for conducting them.

Gogoi further said several sections of society continued to face unresolved challenges, including farmers, Agniveers, women students and candidates affected by examination-related controversies.

He asserted that these issues required greater government responsiveness, rather than what he described as silence on matters of public importance.

Referring to concerns related to recruitment and competitive examinations, Gogoi also mentioned issues with the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), alleging that institutional accountability has been lacking in addressing questions raised by aspirants and stakeholders.

The Congress MP maintained that transparency and timely action were essential to restore public trust in examination systems.

He said governments must remain answerable to citizens, particularly on matters involving students’ futures and employment opportunities.

Reiterating the Congress party’s stand, Gogoi said the opposition would continue to raise issues concerning examination integrity, recruitment processes and democratic accountability, while urging the Centre to address the concerns of students and the public through transparent and credible mechanisms.(Agency)
