The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) honoured renowned scholar and Gurbani Kirtan exponent Bhai Dr. Gurnam Singh Ji with the prestigious ‘Shiromani Kirtaniye Award’ for his outstanding contribution to the field of Gurmat Sangeet.
The felicitation ceremony was organised at Bhai Lakhi Shah Vanjara Hall, Gurdwara Sri Rakab Ganj Sahib, on the occasion of the Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji. The event aimed to preserve and promote the rich tradition of Gurmat Sangeet and Gurbani Kirtan.
DSGMC President Harmeet Singh Kalka and General Secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon said the ‘Shiromani Kirtaniye Award’, instituted by the committee last year, is the highest honour given to distinguished exponents of Gurmat Sangeet for their exceptional and lifelong contribution. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 11 lakh.
Dr. Gurnam Singh was honoured in recognition of his 45 years of dedicated service in performing and promoting Raag-based Gurbani Kirtan across India and abroad.
Kalka said Dr. Gurnam Singh, former Dean and Head of the Department at Punjabi University, Patiala, has played a significant role in preserving the traditional Raag-based style of Gurmat Sangeet and ensuring that this heritage reaches future generations.
During the ceremony, eminent Kirtaniya Bhai Swaran Singh Ji was also presented a special cash award for his continuous contribution to Gurbani Kirtan.
DSGMC also honoured Baba Bachan Singh Ji of Kar Sewa along with several other personalities for their exemplary services in the fields of Sikhism, religion and society.
Harmeet Singh Kalka said DSGMC remains committed to safeguarding and promoting Gurmat Sangeet, Gurbani Kirtan and Sikh heritage. He added that such recognitions encourage young generations to connect with the revered Raagi tradition and continue its legacy.
