Train cancellations amid heightened security arrangements for the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) planned protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar disrupted travel plans for several passengers in the national capital on Saturday, leaving some scrambling to find alternative routes.
Passengers at railway stations reported inconvenience after learning that trains had been cancelled, forcing them to reconsider their journeys at short notice.
One passenger said trains operating via Jaunpur, including the Tapti Ganga and Kashi Vishwanath Express, had been cancelled. The traveller said the revised plan was to travel to Lucknow and change trains there, with a bus as a backup option.
“I was not aware that today’s trains had been cancelled,” the passenger said.
Another traveller, who had arrived from Gujarat and intended to reach Ghaziabad, said the plan to change to a local train at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station had fallen through because no suitable trains were available. The passenger said a rickshaw was taken to New Delhi railway station, only to find that trains were unavailable there as well.
However, not all passengers reported difficulties. Some said their journeys had been smooth and that trains had arrived at Hazrat Nizamuddin on time. One passenger said there had been apprehension overnight but entry into the station was straightforward in the morning.
Meanwhile, security was tightened across Delhi ahead of the proposed protest. Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were deployed at railway stations and other sensitive locations. Police patrols were conducted, while drones were used to monitor the situation.
Some residents also expressed support for the police arrangements. A cyclist who identified himself as an environmentalist and marathon runner said he planned to head towards Jantar Mantar after learning about the protest. He said he wanted to support the Delhi Police in keeping the capital clean, using the words “cockroaches, flies and mosquitoes” to refer to CJP protesters.
The heightened security measures and transport disruptions kept authorities on alert across the capital as the planned demonstration approached.
