‘Patialvi Patrakar’ by Ujagar Singh Released, Documents Contributions of 158 Journalists from Patiala

A Punjabi book documenting the lives and contributions of approximately 158 journalists associated with Patiala across different eras, Patialvi Patrakar, authored by former Punjab District Public Relations Officer Ujagar Singh, was released in Patiala on Friday by renowned educationist and social worker Principal Babu Singh Guram.

Congratulating the author, Principal Guram said the book was a commendable initiative that would preserve the achievements and social contributions of journalists for future generations. He described the publication as an important document of Patiala’s rich journalistic heritage.

The book presents detailed accounts of the lives, professional journeys and societal contributions of journalists who have shaped the region’s media landscape over the years.

Ujagar Singh expressed his gratitude to Principal Babu Singh Guram for sponsoring the publication. The author has previously written around 17 books covering social, historical, political and literary subjects. His works include Patiala Di Virasat, Samkali Samaj, Siyasat Ate Lok Sampark, Punjab De 52 Ratan Heere, Sardar Beant Singh Qatal Da Asal Sach, Punjab Dian Anmol Ratan Shakhsiyatan and Apne Sikh Samaj De Masle.

Second Edition Planned Within Six Months

Speaking at the event, Ujagar Singh announced that Sardar Manmohan Singh, son of his late friend and noted Patiala journalist Sardar Sohan Singh, had taken responsibility for publishing the second edition of Patialvi Patrakar within the next six months. Sohan Singh published a daily newspaper titled Tir Kaman.

Manmohan Singh, a former Deputy Secretary in the Public Relations Department of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, has also undertaken to send copies of the book to universities across Punjab that have journalism departments.

Principal Guram praised Ujagar Singh’s literary and research-oriented work, saying such efforts help preserve the lives of prominent personalities and significant events for the historical record. He expressed hope that more writers would take up similar initiatives and contribute to society through their writing.

He said the book would be a valuable resource for readers, researchers and younger generations seeking to understand Patiala’s journalistic history.

Senior Journalists Applaud the Initiative

Several prominent media professionals and senior journalists from Patiala shared their views at the release ceremony. Those present included Dr. Harjinder Singh Walia of Time TV; international journalist Narpal Singh Shergill; Ravel Bhinder, former president of the Media Club Patiala and senior journalist with Punjabi Tribune; Jaswinder Singh Dakha; Sukannya Bhardwaj; Gurkirpal Singh Ashk; Harbans Sodhi; Gagandeep Singh Ahuja; Bhushan Sood; Jaspal Singh Dhillon; Chaudhary Prabhjot Singh; and Satinder Singh Narula.

The speakers appreciated Ujagar Singh’s efforts and extended their best wishes, noting that the book would benefit younger readers and serve as a lasting record of Patiala’s journalistic heritage.

Patiala District Public Relations Officer Bhupesh Chatha and former District Public Relations Officer Kuljit Singh were also present.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Sardar Parmeet Singh, president of the Patiala Media Club, who expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests for attending the event.
