Amritsar, October 9, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Former Shiromani Akali Dal leader Roop Kaur Sandhu on Friday submitted a complaint containing serious allegations against four to five senior Akali leaders, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) members and Panthic personalities to the office of Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj.

Speaking to mediapersons after submitting the complaint at the Akal Takht Secretariat, Sandhu claimed that the allegations and evidence in her possession were of such a nature that even journalists would be stunned when the names of those involved became public.

“Even the media will be stunned when the names of the leaders come into the public domain,” she said, alleging that the persons named in her complaint had crossed all limits of decency.

Sandhu, who was expelled from the Shiromani Akali Dal, has emerged as a vocal critic of the party leadership. She claims to be in contact with at least three women who were allegedly subjected to exploitation by persons associated with the Akali Dal, the SGPC and other Panthic organisations.

She claimed on Friday that the number of such cases could be considerably higher.

“I am getting calls every day after I decided to come out against this exploitation by the leaders,” she said.

Women Feared for Their Safety, Claims Sandhu

Earlier in the morning, Sandhu had stated on social media that she and the women concerned were finding it difficult to visit Akal Takht because of fears regarding their safety.

However, she subsequently reached the Akal Takht Secretariat in the afternoon, accompanied by two security personnel who had been assigned to her following the controversy.

As Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj was unavailable at the Secretariat, she handed over her written complaint to the staff.

Sandhu claimed that she also spoke to the Jathedar over the telephone and that he assured her of safety. According to her, the Jathedar said he would call her and the women concerned to hear their allegations.

Claims to Possess Evidence on Pen Drive

Sandhu said she had brought evidence stored on a pen drive but did not submit it because the Jathedar was not personally available.

She claimed to have played part of the material for him over the telephone.

Asked about the nature of the evidence, she described it as material that was not fit to be shown publicly.

She further asserted that the material could not be dismissed as AI-generated and could be subjected to forensic examination to establish its authenticity.

Sandhu said the women concerned had wanted to meet the Jathedar but stayed away because they feared for their safety.

More Names Withheld for Now

The former Akali leader disclosed that her initial complaint contained the names of four to five persons, while she had deliberately withheld several other names.

She said she first wanted to see what action Akal Takht would take on the allegations already submitted before deciding whether to disclose further names.

Sandhu also alleged that she had been receiving telephone calls from people who initially appeared sympathetic but subsequently advised her against pursuing the matter, warning that she could face harm.

Sandhu Criticises Dhami, Valtoha

Responding to statements by SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami, Sandhu accused him of going out of his way to defend those against whom allegations had been raised.

She claimed that Dhami was attracting criticism for allegedly protecting others instead of allowing the matter to be examined.

Reacting to criticism from senior Akali leader Virsa Singh Valtoha, Sandhu said he should concentrate on his constituency and political career rather than commenting on her allegations.

The allegations made by Sandhu have not been independently established. The contents of her complaint and the purported evidence have not been made public, and no findings by Akal Takht against the persons concerned have been reported.
