New Delhi, October 9, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday hailed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners for their performance in recent by-elections, claiming that voters had rejected the Opposition’s alleged misinformation campaigns led by Rahul Gandhi and the INDIA bloc.

In a post on social media platform X, Shah said the BJP, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, continued to win elections despite what he described as “lies and disinformation campaigns” by the Congress leader and the Opposition alliance.

“The BJP, under the leadership of PM @narendramodi Ji, continues to win elections one after another despite the lies and disinformation campaigns run by Rahul Gandhi and the INDI Alliance. The NDA’s victories in the bye-elections in West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry, and the recently held local body polls in Rajasthan and Tripura, demonstrate that the people have completely rejected the INDI Alliance,” Shah wrote.

He alleged that Opposition parties questioned institutions after electoral defeats because they had lost public support. According to Shah, the latest results reflected voters’ continued faith in the BJP.

“Having lost their public support, these (Opposition) parties question institutions after every defeat, but the people have recognised their true character. This is why the people have once again delivered a thumping mandate, reaffirming their unwavering faith in the BJP,” he added.

In Assam’s Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, BJP candidate Devasish Sharma defeated All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) candidate Mohammed Badruddin Ajmal.

In West Bengal, BJP candidate Hasi Rani Rath defeated Congress rival Milan Pradhan in the Nandigram Assembly constituency, while Shankharavh Sarkar of the BJP defeated Golam Nabi Azad of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party in the Rejinagar Assembly by-election.

In Puducherry, the NDA ally All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) won the Thattanchavady Assembly by-election.

Shah congratulated West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy. He also praised the state party presidents and BJP workers for their efforts.

BJP leaders hail results as mandate for development

BJP President Nitin Nabin described the victories as “spectacular”, saying the results demonstrated public support for development and good governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Those who were trying to mislead the countrymen have once again been given a resounding response by the people through their votes,” Nabin said in a post on X, criticising the Opposition.

Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya also congratulated the winning candidates, describing the results in West Bengal, Puducherry and Assam as a victory for the BJP-NDA.

“This support from the people reflects the trust in the progress of the country, good governance, and public service under the leadership of the honorable Prime Minister @narendramodi ji,” Vijayvargiya wrote, adding that the public support would further strengthen the resolve to build a developed India.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated eight BJP Rajya Sabha candidates from the state who were elected unopposed.

“I have full confidence that you all will make a significant contribution in realising the resolve of our esteemed Prime Minister @narendramodi ji for ‘Developed India’ and in giving new momentum to the nation’s progress. At the same time, you will enhance the dignity of the Upper House,” Adityanath said in a post on X.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also welcomed the results, citing the unopposed election of the eight BJP Rajya Sabha candidates in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP’s victory in Assam’s Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, its wins in West Bengal’s Nandigram and Rejinagar Assembly constituencies, and the NDA victory in Puducherry’s Thattanchavady constituency.

Gupta said the results reflected voters’ continued trust in the BJP and NDA.

In another post on X, she described the outcome as a “resounding response to those anti-national forces who prioritise appeasement, dividing society, and pursuing political self-interest over the welfare of the people”.
