Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has revisited memories of his mother, Teji Bachchan, recalling her emphasis on discipline and cleanliness while also sharing details about her decision to marry his father, renowned poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, despite their different backgrounds.
The veteran actor, who hosts the quiz-based reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), spoke about his upbringing during an episode featuring actress Madhuri Dixit as a guest.
Dixit asked Bachchan about his mother’s personality and whether she was strict or disciplined, noting that he had often spoken about his father.
Responding to her question, Bachchan said his mother maintained discipline at home and guided her children in the way mothers traditionally do, reminding them what to do, what to avoid and how to put things right.
He also recalled her dislike of untidiness. Bachchan said his mother would question them if they left clothes lying around or entered the house after playing in the dirt, asking them to clean up after themselves.

Bachchan also reflected on his mother’s Sikh family background and her marriage to Harivansh Rai Bachchan, who belonged to a different community and was from Allahabad.
Describing their marriage as an interesting story, the actor encouraged viewers to read his father’s autobiography to learn more about it.
He said his mother had left everything behind within a single day and decided to marry his father, highlighting the significance of her decision.
The conversation offered a glimpse into the family history and personal experiences behind one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated actors.
The special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, marking Amitabh Bachchan’s birthday week, is scheduled to air on Friday on Sony Entertainment Television.
