Lucknow, October 9, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday announced that the Noida International Airport at Jewar would be renamed Narendra Modi International Airport, following the state Cabinet’s approval of a resolution to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service.

The Cabinet approved a total of 39 proposals during its meeting on Friday. Announcing the airport renaming decision at a press conference, Adityanath said the Prime Minister’s 25-year public service journey had been pivotal to the development of both India and Uttar Pradesh.

“It is a moment of immense pride for the UP Cabinet as it is from the land of UP (Varanasi) that PM Modi was elected as MP,” the Chief Minister said, highlighting the Prime Minister’s close association with the state.

Adityanath said Modi had made service, dedication and nation-building his mission, adding that India’s global stature had strengthened under his leadership. He cited the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya after a 500-year wait, the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor and the return and installation of the idol of Goddess Annapurna from abroad as examples of the Prime Minister’s initiatives.

The Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure and connectivity had improved significantly since 2017, with the expansion of expressways, highways, Metro services and the Regional Rapid Transit System.

“The UP Cabinet is grateful to PM Modi for gifting Noida International Airport to the state, which is UP’s biggest airport and is going to become the country’s biggest aviation hub in the future,” Adityanath said.

“Therefore, the Cabinet has passed the resolution to rename the airport as Narendra Modi International Airport, Jewar, Noida,” he added.

The airport is expected to strengthen air connectivity and boost economic activity in the state. Prime Minister Modi inaugurated its first phase in March 2026. The facility’s initial annual passenger-handling capacity is estimated at around 12 million, and it is expected to rank among Asia’s largest airports once all four phases are completed.

Adityanath also highlighted industrial projects, including the BrahMos missile manufacturing unit and the PM MITRA Textile Park in Lucknow, saying they would create investment and employment opportunities. He added that improved road and air links were strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position as a logistics hub.

Meanwhile, Energy and Urban Development Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma announced that 1,725 new electric buses would be deployed across 18 municipal corporation areas to improve urban transport. Under the procurement policy, half the buses will be purchased from the lowest bidder, while the remainder will be sourced from companies manufacturing buses within Uttar Pradesh.

The Chief Minister also highlighted welfare initiatives for poor families, farmers, women and marginalised communities. He said more than 65 lakh houses had been provided under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, while free food grains were being distributed to 3.67 crore ration cardholders.

Adityanath said the Cabinet remained committed to contributing to the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
