New Delhi, October 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Delhi government has modified an order assigning current duty charge to senior police officers after Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivek Bhagat requested that he not take up the temporary responsibility amid allegations of harassment involving women journalists.
In an official clarification posted on its X handle, the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi said its October 5 order had assigned current duty charge of the post of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police to 12 officers of the Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS).
The order is now being modified in respect of Bhagat, the government said.
According to the clarification, the proposal to confer the additional duty charge on the officers was initiated on August 25, well before the recent allegations that brought the matter into public focus. The orders were issued only after due approval on October 5.
The government stressed that the current duty charge was a temporary administrative arrangement. It carried no financial benefit for the officers and did not confer on them any statutory powers or duties vested in the regular incumbents of the posts.
Bhagat, according to the government, voluntarily requested that he not avail the current duty charge until a full enquiry into the allegations of harassment of women journalists was completed and its outcome was considered satisfactory.
Following his request, the October 5 order will be modified and reissued for the remaining 11 officers.
The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of the Delhi Police over reports of alleged misconduct involving women journalists. However, the government maintained that the original proposal for the temporary assignments predated the recent controversy and followed the established administrative process.
No further details regarding the enquiry or any subsequent administrative action have been disclosed so far.
