Kolkata, October 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

West Bengal MLA Bayron Biswas has been shifted to Delhi for advanced treatment after suffering severe burn injuries in a fire at his residence in Dhulian, Murshidabad.

The family confirmed on Monday that the Sagardighi legislator had been flown to Delhi in an air ambulance on Sunday evening. They did not disclose the hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Biswas was initially admitted to a nursing home owned by him in Dhulian after the fire. His wife, who also sustained injuries in the incident, was discharged after receiving primary treatment.

Since the nursing home did not have a dedicated burn unit, Biswas was brought to Kolkata in an ICU ambulance on Sunday morning and admitted temporarily to a city nursing home.

His brother Milton Biswas had earlier said that the family was considering shifting the MLA outside West Bengal for better treatment.

Milton said on Monday that Biswas’s condition was stable but expressed concern over his diabetes, which could complicate his recovery from the burn injuries.

“The best possible treatment is being provided without taking any risks,” he said.

The family also sought to dispel speculation surrounding the circumstances of the injuries. Biswas’s elder brother said his blood sugar level had dropped before the incident.

Biswas is currently associated with the rebel faction of the Trinamool Congress led by Ritabrata Banerjee. The faction has been allotted the name Democratic Trinamool Congress amid the ongoing dispute over the party’s identity.

Biswas first won the Sagardighi seat in a 2023 bypoll as a Congress candidate backed by the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front. He subsequently joined the Trinamool Congress in the presence of then party general secretary and Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee.

Despite switching parties, Biswas officially continued as a Congress legislator in the West Bengal Assembly records until the end of the term in 2026.

The Trinamool Congress fielded him again from Sagardighi in the 2026 Assembly elections, where he defeated BJP candidate Tapas Kumar Chakraborty by 34,260 votes. Biswas secured 90,781 votes against Chakraborty’s 56,521.
