Rising Delhi batter Priyansh Arya says representing India A brings both pressure and pride as he prepares for the upcoming one-day series against Australia A.
Arya, who scored a century against Australia A in Kanpur last year and has five more List A half-centuries, said wearing the India colours remains a source of immense pride.
“It’s a lot of fun playing for India A, and to wear the blue jersey is a proud feeling,” Arya said in Delhi. “I felt great to have scored a century for India A last year. There’s a bit of pressure on you when you’re playing for your country at any level. However, that pressure is also a privilege. I enjoy playing under that pressure and try to handle it well.”
The 25-year-old has also made a strong impression in the last two Indian Premier League seasons. He scored 475 runs in IPL 2025 at a strike rate of 179.24 before finishing the 2026 season with 364 runs at an impressive strike rate of 211.62.
Arya, however, said he does not consciously chase a particular strike rate and instead focuses on making the most of the powerplay.
“I don’t focus as much on the strike rate, but I still try to capitalise on the powerplay as much as possible,” he said.
Reflecting on his aggressive approach, Arya said greater effort during the 2026 IPL campaign helped him produce better results.
“I put in a little more effort during this IPL than last year, and it paid off. If there’s high risk in my approach, then there’s high reward as well. I just have self-belief, and there are no doubts in my mind when I hit the ball,” he said.
Arya added that he tries not to dwell on failures and remains positive even when an aggressive approach results in his dismissal.
“Even if I get out, I don’t feel bad a lot. I always remain positive and confident,” he said.
The batter also believes the longer format of 50-over cricket gives him more time to assess conditions and build an innings.
“You can take your time in 50-over cricket, and I do that as well since there’s less pressure to score quickly,” Arya said.
He added that continuous improvement remains central to his approach, saying he strives to get better every day.
