Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has reappointed Akash Anand as the party’s National Coordinator, restoring the organisational responsibilities he previously held ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Announcing the decision on X, Mayawati said it was taken after careful consideration and in the interest of the BSP and the broader Bahujan movement.
Mayawati said she had noticed positive changes in Anand’s personality and working style in recent months. She pointed to a recent post by Anand seeking an opportunity to return to active organisational work as one of the factors behind the decision.
She said the majority of BSP members wanted Anand to remain with the party and believed he should be given another opportunity to serve the organisation with his earlier responsibilities restored.
Mayawati also said Anand’s father, Anand Kumar, and his younger brother, Ishan Anand, had supported the decision. She noted that Ishan had conveyed that he would continue to perform any responsibility assigned to him under her guidance even without holding a formal party position.
The BSP chief also referred to the political retirement of Anand’s father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, saying she hoped the party would now function smoothly without the need for repeated organisational changes.
Mayawati said maintaining discipline remained a priority and stressed that the Bahujan community was like her extended family. She recalled that the party had taken several difficult decisions in recent months to uphold organisational discipline, including decisions affecting members of her own family.
According to Mayawati, Anand’s conduct within the party had largely remained satisfactory, although certain developments had led to repeated organisational changes. Siddharth eventually stepped away from active politics following those developments.
Recalling the ideals and struggles of Dr B.R. Ambedkar and BSP founder Kanshi Ram, Mayawati said the party had achieved significant milestones in Indian politics by following their legacy.
She said the BSP was preparing actively for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and would seek support from all sections of society.
Mayawati expressed confidence that Anand’s reinstatement would help the party function more effectively, while making it clear that his future role would depend largely on his conduct and style of functioning.
She wished Anand well in his political journey and conveyed her blessings to him, Ishan Anand and Anand Kumar. She also thanked members of the Bahujan community and her supporters for standing by her during difficult circumstances.
