The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, on Monday approved the Ranjitgarh Development Authority (RDA) Bill, 2026, paving the way for planned, sustainable and eco-tourism-oriented development of the Ranjit Sagar Dam and Shahpur Kandi Dam areas.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Council of Ministers held in Chandigarh.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the proposed Ranjitgarh Development Authority will be established as a statutory body under the administrative control of the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. It will have administrative, financial and regulatory powers for integrated development, land management, project implementation and destination governance in the region.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will head the Authority as Chairman, while the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister will serve as Vice-Chairman. An Executive Committee headed by the Chief Secretary will oversee the Authority’s day-to-day functioning and coordination among different departments.
New Driver Posts Approved in Office of Chief Electoral Officer
The Cabinet also approved the creation of new Driver posts in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab.
The posts will be created by surrendering existing Peon posts out of 19 permanent Peon posts and one permanent Moharrir post. The restructuring is aimed at streamlining the functioning of the Chief Electoral Officer’s office.
Nursing Rules Amended for Promotion of Staff Nurses and Nursing Sisters
The Cabinet approved an amendment to Appendix-B of the Punjab Nursing Education Service Rules (Group B), 2016, allowing eligible nursing staff to be considered for promotion to Tutor posts at Government Colleges of Nursing in Patiala and Amritsar under the Department of Medical Education and Research.
The Tutor posts will be filled from among regular Staff Nurses and Nursing Sisters working under the Director, Research and Medical Education, Punjab, who hold an M.Sc. (Nursing) in the relevant specialty. Preference will be given to candidates having one year of teaching experience in nursing education.
PICTES Non-Teaching Contract Staff to Get Regularisation
The Cabinet also gave its concurrence to regularising the services of non-teaching staff working on a contractual basis under the Punjab Information and Communication Technology Education Society (PICTES).
The employees covered by the decision will be extended the benefit of regularisation under PICTES in the prescribed pay scales.
