Punjab Finance and Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Monday held separate meetings with representatives of PUNBUS/PRTC contract workers and government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) contractual employees, assuring them that their legitimate service-related demands would be addressed on priority.

Cheema, who heads the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to examine employees’ issues, directed the Transport Department to resolve the legitimate demands of PUNBUS and PRTC contract workers by October 15.

During the meeting with representatives of the Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS/PRTC Contract Workers’ Union Punjab (25/11), Cheema directed Additional Chief Secretary, Transport, Anurag Verma, to take necessary action within the stipulated timeframe. He also asked the department to convene a meeting of the Board of Directors without delay for matters requiring the board’s approval.

“All legitimate demands of the PUNBUS/PRTC contract workers should be redressed by October 15. The Transport Department must also convene a meeting of the Board of Directors without delay so that matters requiring the Board’s concurrence can be approved promptly,” Cheema said.

In a separate meeting with representatives of government ITI contractual employees, including members of the Sarkari ITIs Theka Mulazam Union Punjab and the All Punjab DST/CTS Contract Instructor Union, the minister examined their memorandums and demands.

The unions sought tenure security up to the age of 58 years, along with fair compensation and salary appraisal, citing their extensive experience as guest faculty and contract instructors.

Cheema said the demands concerning tenure security and salary revision would be considered while taking into account the employees’ long service. He also directed Director, Technical Education, Moneesh Kumar, to prepare and submit a formal proposal for salary appraisal of ITI instructors to the Finance Department at the earliest.

“The Bhagwant Singh Mann Government is actively engaging with employee unions across departments to ensure prompt, structured and sympathetic resolution of their genuine issues and demands,” Cheema said, adding that the government would continue working with employees and their representatives to address legitimate concerns in a timely manner.

Representatives who attended the meetings included Resham Singh Gill, Shamsher Singh, Harkesh Kumar, Rohi Ram, Baljit Singh, Balwinder Singh Rath, Jagjit Singh and Jatinder Singh from the PUNBUS/PRTC Contract Workers’ Union Punjab (25/11).

Sewa Singh, Sukhraj Singh, Navneet Singh and Rajinder Singh represented the Sarkari ITIs Theka Mulazam Union Punjab, while Kirandeep Singh Rupana, Pardeep Singh and Harpreet Singh represented the All Punjab DST/CTS Contract Instructor Union.
