The process for filing claims and objections under the Special Summary Revision (SIR-2026) of electoral rolls in Punjab will begin on August 13, 2026, following the completion of the house-to-house enumeration exercise, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Punjab Anindita Mitra said on Thursday.
Addressing a training programme organised for the election machinery on the claims and objections process, Mitra said the draft electoral rolls will also be published on August 13, with the window for submitting claims and objections remaining open until September 12, 2026.
The training programme was attended by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), AERO-1 officials and Assistant EROs, who were briefed about procedures related to notices, filing of claims and objections, and their disposal.
Mitra appreciated the efforts of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the house-to-house enumeration phase, stating that their dedication helped Punjab achieve 100 per cent digitisation within the prescribed timeline.
She said the primary objective of SIR-2026 is to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll while removing entries of ineligible voters.
The CEO directed election officials to ensure that citizens face no inconvenience during the notice period and that the claims and objections process is conducted in a smooth, transparent and accountable manner.
She said the election machinery must maintain the same level of commitment displayed during the first phase of SIR-2026, adding that the transparent working approach of officials helped address concerns within a few days of the house-to-house exercise.
Mitra informed that the overall notice period and disposal of claims and objections will continue from August 13 to October 8, 2026, covering a total period of 57 days. The final electoral rolls will be published on October 12, 2026.
She appealed to residents to verify their details after the draft voter lists are released and submit any claims or objections within the stipulated period, clarifying that no submissions will be accepted after September 12.
