Jalandhar Police has intensified its crackdown against drug trafficking, illegal weapons and organised crime, registering 1,201 cases under the NDPS Act and arresting 1,440 drug traffickers in the last seven months as part of Punjab Police’s anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’.
The Commissionerate Police has targeted the financial networks, weapon supply chains, mobility and support systems of criminal syndicates through intelligence-based operations and technology-driven policing.
During the crackdown, police seized 16.810 kg heroin, 119 grams methamphetamine (Ice), 9.274 kg opium, 24.624 kg ganja, 33.750 kg poppy husk, 20 grams cocaine, 15.200 kg charas and 3,130 intoxicating capsules/tablets. Besides, Rs 11.17 lakh suspected to be proceeds from drug trafficking and vehicles used in narcotics offences were also recovered.
Alongside action against narcotics, police intensified operations under ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ targeting illegal arms suppliers, gang associates and facilitators. During the same period, the force recovered 51 illegal pistols and 133 live cartridges while maintaining surveillance on individuals linked to organised criminal groups.
Preventive policing measures have also been strengthened with the deployment of 45 Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs) and 14 motorcycle patrol units involving 209 personnel. Night checkpoints at key entry and exit points and verification through the VAHAN database have improved monitoring of suspicious movements.
Technology has emerged as a key component of investigations, with the Punjab Artificial Intelligence System (PAIS), Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), CCTV surveillance network and Digital Forensic Laboratory helping police gather and analyse digital evidence.
Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav said the force has shifted its focus from individual crime response to dismantling the ecosystem that supports organised crime.
“Modern policing is no longer about isolated arrests or recoveries. It is about maintaining relentless pressure on criminal networks by targeting their finances, weapons, logistics, technology and support systems. Intelligence-led operations, scientific investigation and community participation are helping us reduce the operational space available to criminals across Punjab,” he said.
Jalandhar Police has also focused on rehabilitation efforts to address the demand side of drug abuse. Since January, 1,300 individuals have been admitted to De-Addiction Centres, 1,509 referred to OOAT Centres, and 504 beneficiaries have received relief under Section 64-A of the NDPS Act.
Commissioner of Police Satinder Singh said the objective was to weaken multiple links of criminal networks through coordinated action.
“Whether it is dismantling drug supply chains, recovering illegal weapons, identifying gang associates, using technology or strengthening preventive policing, every intervention is aimed at making organised crime difficult to operate and sustain,” he said.
The Commissionerate Police also achieved breakthroughs in major investigations, including the BSF Chowk blast case, where key accused were arrested and links with Pakistan-based handlers were uncovered. Police also busted an alleged anti-national module involved in sharing sensitive information with Pakistan-based operatives.
