The Miri-Piri Khalsa March, which began from Sri Akal Takht Sahib, on Thursday proceeded to its next stage from Gurdwara Patshahi Nauvin at Baba Bakala Sahib towards Gurdwara Janam Asthan Baba Budha Sahib Ji at Kathunangal, amid the presence of large numbers of devotees and religious fervour.
The march, being held as part of its third phase, was flagged off in the presence of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Singh Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Singh Sahib Giani Tek Singh, Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib Granthi Singh Sahib Giani Parvinderpal Singh and Tarna Dal Baba Bakala Sahib chief Baba Joga Singh, among other prominent personalities and devotees.
During a religious congregation held on the occasion, ragis performed Gurbani kirtan, while Giani Parvinderpal Singh delivered a discourse on Sikh history.
Addressing the gathering, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj said Baba Bakala Sahib was a sacred land associated with the ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. He recalled the historical significance of the place, including the words of the eighth Guru, Sri Guru Har Krishan Sahib, “Baba base gram Bakale”, and Baba Makhan Shah Lubana’s identification of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib as the ninth Guru.
He said the tenth Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, established Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as the eternal Guru and guided the Sikh community to remain connected with it. He stressed that the community’s faith, guidance and way of life should remain rooted in Gurbani and Gurmat principles.
Giani Gargajj said the message of the Miri-Piri Khalsa March was for the Panth to remain united under the guidance of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
He also called for greater efforts to protect Sikh youth from drug abuse, saying young people were the strength of the community. He urged parents to connect their children with gurdwaras, sangat, seva and Gurbani.
The Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar said Sikh institutions and organisations were important for the progress of the community and called for collective efforts under the guidance of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He also urged the sangat to remain alert towards those who, he said, sought to challenge the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
According to Giani Gargajj, the core message of the Miri-Piri Khalsa March was to strengthen the connection with Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Gurmat, protect youth from drugs and promote Panthic unity.
On the occasion, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj and Giani Tek Singh honoured the Panj Pyare and Nishan Sahib bearers with siropas. Giani Parvinderpal Singh performed the service of placing the sacred saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in the palki sahib.
Large numbers of devotees welcomed the Khalsa March at various stages along its route. Siropas were also presented to the Panj Pyare and prominent personalities, while langars featuring various dishes were organised for the devotees.
Students from different schools participated in the march and expressed their devotion towards Guru Sahib. Devotees also showed keen interest in having darshan of the weapons of the Sikh Gurus being carried along with the Khalsa March.
Several Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee office-bearers, members, managers, religious personalities and a large number of devotees were present during the programme.
