Pakistan’s military carried out fresh airstrikes on Afghanistan’s Kandahar, Paktia and Khost provinces on Thursday, killing four civilians, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said.
Condemning what he described as “indiscriminate and cowardly” attacks, Mujahid said the strikes were a violation of international principles and an act of aggression. He made the remarks in a post on X.
“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan assures the people that these shameless acts of aggression and attacks by the Pakistani military regime will be met with an appropriate response through a decisive stance,” Mujahid said.
He claimed the strikes followed statements from Pakistani military circles alleging that drones had crossed into Pakistani territory from Afghanistan.
“Likewise, they once again launched an aerial attack on Afghan territory, apparently in an attempt to justify their inability to deal with their internal problems,” Mujahid added.
The Taliban spokesperson warned that what he called “reckless, careless, and hostile actions” could provoke anger among Afghans and have adverse consequences for Pakistan.
Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai also criticised Pakistan’s continued policy towards Afghanistan following the latest strikes.
“Pakistan once again carried out bombings in Kandahar, Khost, and Paktia of our dear homeland. It seems that Islamabad does not intend to abandon its continuation of that negative policy, the fire of which has now reached its own doorstep as well,” Karzai posted on X.
Karzai said Afghans remained united against what he described as Pakistani aggression and called on Islamabad to pursue “good neighbourliness” and improve relations with Afghanistan.
The latest reported strikes came days after Pakistan carried out airstrikes on Afghanistan’s Kunar and Paktika provinces on September 21, according to Mujahid. Those strikes reportedly killed three people.
Mujahid had condemned the September 21 attacks, alleging that Pakistan had targeted Afghan territory and civilians and warning that Afghanistan would give an “appropriate response”.
