Mumbai, September 24, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Shares of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ended nearly 1.8 per cent higher at Rs 1,818 apiece on Thursday, a modest gain over the issue price of Rs 1,785, following the exchange’s much-anticipated Rs 22,561.57 crore initial public offering (IPO).

NSE shares made a muted debut on the BSE, listing at Rs 1,800 apiece, representing a 0.8 per cent premium over the IPO price and falling short of grey market estimates. The stock, however, gained more than 5 per cent during intra-day trading before settling at Rs 1,818.

At the time of its market debut, NSE’s market capitalisation stood at around Rs 4.45 lakh crore.

NSE Managing Director and CEO Ashishkumar Chauhan said the exchange was working on a comprehensive, mobile-first framework that could bring investors’ trading data, portfolio information and analytics together on a single platform.

“NSE is the democracy being expressed in real-time across 13 crore Indians, 27 crore accounts, 9 crore households, the largest cohort of any type in India today. For me, capital markets are an essence of well-functioning human societies,” Chauhan said.

He added that capital markets reflect society’s collective hopes, fears, expectations and progress in real time, with these factors being reflected in prices.

The NSE IPO was open from September 17 to September 21 and was subscribed 5.71 times. It received bids worth Rs 90,287.33 crore against the issue size of Rs 22,568.94 crore.

The price band for the IPO was fixed at Rs 1,700-1,785 per share. The issue comprised entirely an offer for sale (OFS) of 12.64 crore equity shares by existing shareholders.

The NSE IPO was the second-largest public issue in India, after Hyundai Motor India’s Rs 27,870-crore IPO in 2024.

NSE derives a significant share of its revenue from transaction charges, which accounted for 78.65 per cent of its revenue from operations in fiscal 2026. Options trading alone contributed more than 60 per cent of operating revenue, highlighting the exchange’s dependence on derivatives activity.
