Australia’s explosive all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a career spanning more than a decade, according to a report.
Maxwell, popularly known as ‘The Big Show’, represented Australia in 286 international matches, scoring 7,226 runs and taking 136 wickets, ESPNcricinfo reported.
The 38-year-old was part of Australia’s victorious campaigns at the 2015 and 2023 ODI World Cups and the 2021 T20 World Cup. Renowned for his unconventional stroke-play, power-hitting and ability to turn matches around, he established himself as one of the most dangerous batters in limited-overs cricket.
Maxwell made his international debut in an ODI against Afghanistan in 2012. He also shares the record for the most centuries in men’s T20 internationals, with five, alongside India’s Rohit Sharma.
One of the defining moments of his career came during the 2023 ODI World Cup match against Afghanistan at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. With Australia struggling at 91/7 while chasing 292, Maxwell produced a remarkable unbeaten 201 off 128 deliveries to guide his team to a three-wicket victory.
His contribution to Australian cricket extended beyond batting, with his off-spin bowling and athletic fielding making him a valuable all-round option.
Maxwell played seven Tests, with his last appearance in the longest format coming in 2017. He had already announced his retirement from ODI cricket following the 2025 Champions Trophy, finishing with 3,990 runs in the format.
His last T20 International appearance came against Oman in February 2026.
The reported retirement marks the end of an international career defined by match-winning performances, extraordinary hitting and some of the most memorable innings in modern limited-overs cricket.
