Trump Threatens to Veto ‘Everything’ if Democrats Win Congress, Says He Would Love to Run for Third Term

Washington, November 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

US President Donald Trump has threatened to veto all legislation if Democrats take control of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections, while acknowledging that constitutional restrictions prevent him from seeking a third presidential term.

In an interview with New York Post columnist Miranda Devine for the newspaper’s Pod Force One podcast, Trump said he expected Republicans to perform well but warned that a Democratic victory would prompt him to use his veto powers extensively.

“I think we’re going to do great. But if we didn’t win, I veto everything. I’ll be vetoing, vetoing,” Trump said in the interview released on Monday.

He suggested that after a month or two of repeated vetoes, Democrats would eventually approach him to negotiate a deal.

Asked whether he would seek another term if permitted, Trump said he would “love to run again”, citing a poll that he claimed showed him defeating potential opponents by a substantial margin. However, he acknowledged that the constitutional language governing presidential terms was precise.

The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution bars anyone from being elected president more than twice. Trump, 80, won the presidency in 2016 and returned to office after winning the 2024 election.

Trump also said he would consider issuing pre-emptive pardons to former associates if Democrats launched investigations against them after gaining control of Congress. Referring to pardons he issued in connection with January 6-related cases, he said he would take similar action if necessary.

Dismissing surveys showing Democrats ahead, Trump questioned the reliability of polling and said his assessment of Republican prospects was based partly on the response at his campaign rallies.

He warned that a Democratic victory in the House and Senate, followed by a win in the next presidential election, would mean “our country is finished”.

Most public polls have indicated that Democrats are favoured to win the House. The final New York Times/Siena surveys released on Sunday also showed Democratic Senate candidates leading in Kansas, Ohio, Maine, Texas and Michigan.

Under the US Constitution, Congress can override a presidential veto only with a two-thirds majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Trump vetoed 10 bills during his first term.
