Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has hit out at sections of the media for allegedly misrepresenting his social media post, accusing them of twisting a devotional chant into a message challenging his opponents.
The actor expressed his displeasure in a strongly worded post on X and his personal blog, saying his reference to the phrase “Hathi ghoda palki, Jai Kanhaiya Lal ki” was a prayer to Lord Krishna and not a threat or political statement.
Bachchan alleged that media reports had taken the devotional expression out of context and portrayed it as a challenge to his opponents, with headlines suggesting he had asked them to “bring their elephants and horses”.
Taking aim at the coverage, the veteran actor pointed to his following of around 50 million people on social media, warning that 10 per cent of them were ready to “strike” if given a signal.
He also accused sections of the media of disrespecting religious sentiments and questioned their accountability when reporting on public figures.
Bachchan wrote that while individuals could make mistakes and apologise, the media appeared to treat such misrepresentation as its right. He further criticised the use of sensational headlines and said his words should not be distorted to create a different meaning.
The remarks followed his customary Sunday interaction with fans outside his Mumbai residence, Jalsa. The actor, who regularly greets admirers gathered outside his home, was seen meeting them from a specially designated glass enclosure during Sunday’s session.
His latest comments have brought attention to the tension between the actor and sections of the media over the interpretation of his social media posts.
