Yamunanagar, November 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Haryana’s Yamunanagar district narrowly escaped an alleged attempt to run him over by a dumper driver suspected of involvement in illegal mining. Police have registered a case and launched a search for the driver and occupants of a car accused of helping him flee.

The incident took place around 6.15 am on October 31, when Vyaspur SDM Dr Kuldeep Singh was heading to the Public Works Department (PWD) Rest House in Sadhaura to attend a ‘Run for Unity’ programme.

According to his complaint at Sadhaura police station, Singh noticed a dumper near the rest house with an unclear number plate. Suspecting that it was carrying illegally mined material, he signalled the driver to stop for inspection.

The driver allegedly accelerated towards the SDM instead, forcing him to move out of the vehicle’s path. Singh then alerted the police and followed the dumper.

During the pursuit, a white Hyundai Creta allegedly attempted to block the SDM’s vehicle. Its driver reportedly drove in a zig-zag manner and applied the brakes suddenly, allowing the dumper to escape.

The SDM is said to have recorded the incident on his mobile phone.

Sadhaura police station in-charge Lakhwinder Singh confirmed that a case had been registered on the basis of Singh’s complaint against the dumper driver and the occupants of the car.

Police are investigating the alleged attempt to obstruct the SDM, the role of the car occupants and whether the dumper was carrying illegally mined material. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved.
