Chandigarh, November 2, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

As part of the Bhagwant Mann Government’s ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ initiative, the Punjab Police, civil administration and Nasha Mukti Morcha (NMM) conducted coordinated Cordon and Search Operations (CASO) across all 23 districts on Saturday.

The large-scale exercise is part of the Punjab Government’s 60-day mission-mode campaign against drugs, aimed at detecting narcotics, identifying suspected drug traffickers and intensifying action against the illegal drug trade. Medical stores were also inspected to check for the unauthorised sale or misuse of medicines that could be diverted for use as intoxicants.

During the operations, police teams carried out intensive checks at vulnerable locations and examined suspicious persons and vehicles. Authorities also took steps to reclaim identified drug-consumption points, install CCTV cameras at vulnerable locations and address local civic issues in coordination with the concerned departments.

Police officers and civil administration officials interacted with residents and strengthened coordination with Village Defence Committees to encourage public participation and community vigilance against drugs.

Atin Agnihotri, Doaba Zone Coordinator of the Nasha Mukti Morcha, said the organisation had started coordinating with Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to ensure action against drug peddlers.

“We have begun coordinating with Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to ensure action against drug peddlers, and we hope to achieve success in the coming days,” he said.

He added that district-level teams were supporting the campaign across the Doaba region, covering Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr and Jalandhar.

Malwa East Coordinator Anu Babbar said CASO operations were underway across her zone, which includes Patiala, Mohali, Sangrur and Roopnagar.

“The CASO operations are in full swing in our zone, which comprises Patiala, Mohali, Sangrur and Roopnagar. The teams are also engaging with local residents to assess ground realities in villages and localities believed to be vulnerable to drug abuse, ensuring that the campaign does not remain confined to meetings and official directives,” she said.

In Amritsar, the operations were conducted under the direct supervision of Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, IPS. The deployment included five DCPs, eight ADCPs and 10 ACPs, along with 430 police personnel, including non-gazetted officers (NGOs) and other ranks (ORs), to ensure enforcement and implementation of the identified measures.

The CASO operations are part of the state government’s broader effort to curb drug abuse, dismantle the drug supply chain and encourage public participation in the campaign.

Over the past fortnight, similar operations have been carried out in parts of Ludhiana, Batala, Pathankot, Roopnagar, Sangrur and Patiala. In Amritsar, operations have also been conducted in Maqboolpura and Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar.

Other locations covered include Guru Nanak Pura in Chheharta, Jalandhar; Ghanta Ghar and Harsi Pind under Tanda Police Station in Hoshiarpur; and Chhaj Colony and Valmiki Mohalla in Phagwara.

The campaign aims to create a drug-free Punjab by targeting both the drug supply chain and the conditions that contribute to substance abuse. The Nasha Mukti Morcha and Punjab Police are seeking to sustain pressure on drug traffickers through continued search operations, enforcement and community engagement.
