Hockey India has congratulated Indian men’s team goalkeeper Suraj Karkera on completing 100 senior international appearances, marking a significant milestone in his career.
The 30-year-old Karkera achieved the landmark during India’s fifth Pool A match against Bangladesh at the ongoing Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 in Kakamigahara, Japan, on Monday.
Karkera made his senior international debut in 2017 and has since been an important part of India’s goalkeeping unit across major international competitions. His career has featured several notable achievements on the continental stage, reflecting his consistency and commitment to the national team.
His honours include a gold medal at the 2017 Asia Cup, followed by a bronze medal at the 2021 Asian Champions Trophy. He was also part of the Indian team that won bronze at the 2022 Asia Cup and gold at the 2023 Hockey 5s Asia Cup.
Karkera added another major title to his collection when India clinched gold at the 2024 Asian Champions Trophy. He was also part of the team that won gold at the 2025 Asia Cup.
Completing 100 senior international caps during an Asian Games campaign has added another special chapter to Karkera’s career. As India continue their title defence in Japan, the milestone recognises the goalkeeper’s years of service, perseverance and contribution to Indian hockey at the international level.
Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey lauded Karkera’s achievement, extending his congratulations on the occasion.
“Heartiest congratulations to Suraj on reaching the remarkable milestone of 100 senior international appearances for India. As a goalkeeper, Suraj has shown great composure and commitment whenever called upon. I am confident he will continue to contribute strongly to the team,” the president said.
Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh also praised Karkera for completing a century of senior international caps.
“Completing 100 appearances for India’s senior team is a proud moment for Suraj and Indian hockey. This milestone reflects the hard work, discipline and perseverance he has demonstrated throughout his career. Suraj has continued to grow as a goalkeeper and has played an important role in the team’s journey. Hockey India congratulates him on this special achievement and wishes him many more memorable performances and milestones in the years ahead,” he said.
