Lovely Professional University (LPU) on Monday reaffirmed that its campus was safe and that normal activities had resumed following recent unrest, saying the university administration was working with civil and police authorities to address the situation.
In a statement, the university said a joint meeting involving its administration, civil and police officials, and student representatives was held after normalcy was restored on campus. According to LPU, the student representatives were of the unanimous view that the unrest had primarily been triggered by outsiders who had allegedly entered the campus unlawfully to disrupt peace.
The university said the matter was being investigated and that appropriate action would be taken in accordance with the law.
Reiterating its commitment to student welfare, LPU said that for more than 25 years, the well-being, aspirations and future of its students had remained central to its institutional priorities. The university said it had focused on providing quality education, opportunities for growth and a foundation for students to build successful careers.
LPU said it brought together students from across India and around 50 countries, adding that protecting their safety, dignity and well-being remained its foremost responsibility.
The university also refuted what it described as false and baseless claims circulating on social media. It urged students, parents and the wider community to rely on verified information and avoid sharing unverified content.
LPU said certain anti-social elements had allegedly attempted to exploit the situation amid heightened emotions, resulting in disruption and damage to university property. It expressed confidence that appropriate legal action would be taken against those it described as outside infiltrators.
The university also praised its student community for responding to what it termed misinformation. According to LPU, students had independently used their social media accounts and spoken to the media to refute the claims circulating online.
The university said the students’ response reflected the maturity and responsibility of its community, as well as their trust in the institution.
LPU appealed to media organisations to exercise caution and avoid publishing or amplifying information, videos and claims that had not been independently verified. It said unverified reports concerning student safety could cause unnecessary anxiety among students and their families.
“Safeguarding their trust, and protecting the safety, dignity and well-being of every student, remains the University’s foremost responsibility,” the university said in its statement.
Vice Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu said the university remained committed to its students and their future, emphasising the importance of the trust shared between the institution, students, parents, alumni and the wider community.
LPU said it would continue to focus on student welfare and its educational mission as the matter was addressed through the appropriate channels.
