Sahib Singh, the young man who was allegedly slapped by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and PWD Minister Parvesh Verma during a road inspection, has demanded the minister’s resignation and sought registration of an FIR in connection with the incident.
Singh, who was recording the inspection involving AAP MLA Jarnail Singh, said the entire episode was captured on video and that the footage would establish what happened. Delhi Police has received his complaint and is verifying the allegations; no FIR had been registered in connection with the confrontation at the time of the latest reports.
Speaking about his demand, Singh said, “Our demand is that the Deputy Chief Minister should resign; he is not worthy of being a minister. An FIR should at least be registered against him.”
Singh denied Verma’s allegation that he or other AAP workers had abused the minister’s family. He said he was prepared to accept any action if there was evidence of abusive or disrespectful language.
“If there is even 1 per cent evidence that I used any abusive language or showed disrespect, I am ready to accept all allegations and apologise to them. But we didn’t say anything inappropriate,” he said.
Singh said he had accompanied Jarnail Singh to inspect the road after receiving a call and alleged that the newly laid surface was cracking and breaking apart. He claimed the confrontation followed their attempt to highlight the road’s condition.
A video circulating on social media shows Verma pulling down Singh’s mobile phone before appearing to slap him across the face. A security guard then intervenes as a scuffle develops.
Verma has defended his actions, saying AAP workers had abused his family and that he reacted in the heat of the moment. Jarnail Singh and Sahib Singh have denied the allegation.
The incident has triggered a political confrontation between the BJP and AAP, with the latter demanding action against Verma. Separately, a complaint was filed against Jarnail Singh and his associates alleging obstruction of public works and a demand for Rs 50 lakh; police are investigating complaints from both sides.
