Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian community in Bishkek on Sunday after arriving in Kyrgyzstan to attend the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
Members of the Indian community greeted Modi with chants of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram”. Cultural performances by people from Kyrgyzstan were also organised, while yoga enthusiasts showcased their skills to welcome the Prime Minister.
Modi expressed his appreciation for the welcome in a post on X, describing it as a “very special welcome” by the Indian community in Bishkek.
Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Kasymaliev received Modi at Manas International Airport.
After his arrival, Modi said he would hold bilateral meetings with various leaders and participate in the SCO Summit over the following two days. Several bilateral engagements are also scheduled during his visit.
In his departure statement before leaving for his two-nation tour of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan on Saturday, Modi said India had been an active and constructive SCO member since 2017.
He said India would continue advancing its regional vision based on “Security, Connectivity and Opportunity” and work with fellow SCO members towards a region free from terrorism, separatism and extremism.
Modi is also scheduled to meet Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov and other SCO leaders. He will attend the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games, which he described as a celebration of Central Asia’s rich living heritage.
The Prime Minister said the visit would strengthen India’s strategic partnerships in Central Asia, deepen civilisational ties and advance shared objectives of peace, stability and prosperity.
Kyrgyzstan is also looking to expand economic engagement with India. Investment Minister Ravshanbek Sabirov said on Saturday that Modi’s visit was expected to boost bilateral trade and investment, with Bishkek keen to attract Indian companies in infrastructure, renewable energy, tourism, technology and agro-industry.
