Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with young people across the country on Thursday through the ‘Khelo India Dialogue – Khel Ki Baat, Pradhan Mantri Modi Ke Saath’, as the government seeks to connect India’s sporting ambitions with youth leadership, civic participation and nation-building.
The nationwide programme will be held on August 27 as part of the celebrations for National Sports Day 2026. Organised under the aegis of Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), the initiative will bring together youth, athletes and educational institutions at more than 1,500 locations across the country.
The programme comes as India looks beyond participation and medals towards its long-term ambition of developing a stronger sporting ecosystem, including preparations linked to its 2036 Olympic aspirations.
The dialogue will focus on strengthening grassroots sports infrastructure, improving coaching and support systems, identifying and nurturing talent through scientific methods, and creating greater opportunities for young people to participate in sport.
A key focus will be preparing athletes for the 2036 Olympics through transparent selection, scientific talent identification and long-term athlete development. The programme will also explore ways to promote youth leadership, volunteering and participation in governance as part of the broader Viksit Bharat vision.
Young participants will also discuss how sport and youth networks can contribute to fitness, civic responsibility and nation-building. The initiative is intended to give budding athletes and other young people a platform to share their ideas and suggestions on the future of India’s sports and youth ecosystem.
Following the Prime Minister’s virtual interaction, participating institutions will hold local programmes involving youth, MY Bharat volunteers, sportspersons and public representatives. Young participants will also have opportunities to interact with leading athletes and learn from their experiences.
The government is positioning the initiative as more than a sports-focused programme, seeking to give young people a larger role as athletes, volunteers, leaders and contributors to national development.
With National Sports Day observed on August 29 in honour of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, the August 27 dialogue is expected to serve as a platform for connecting the sporting aspirations of today’s youth with India’s longer-term vision for sports development and nation-building.
