Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday paid tribute to Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas on his 650th birth anniversary and said his message of equality, dignity and social harmony should reach every household in the national capital.
Addressing the ‘Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan and Pavitra Maati Kalash Distribution’ programme at Talkatora Stadium, Gupta said the Samrasta Sankalp Yatra, which began in Varanasi, had reached Delhi and would travel across all districts of the city.
She described the campaign as an effort to take Sant Ravidas’ teachings to people across Delhi and said it was being carried forward in line with the vision and leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Gupta expressed the hope that the sacred soil contained in the kalash would reach households and settlements throughout Delhi, carrying with it the blessings and teachings of Sant Ravidas.
She said the sacred soil represented more than earth, describing it as a symbol of Sant Ravidas’ philosophy, lifelong work for society and message to humanity.
The Chief Minister said the 650th birth anniversary celebrations provided an opportunity to reaffirm the saint’s ideals and strengthen equality, dignity and brotherhood in society.
She said the central message of Sant Ravidas’ teachings was that no person was superior or inferior to another and that everyone deserved equal opportunities and respect.
Gupta said these principles were being advanced under Prime Minister Modi through the vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas”. She added that the Delhi Government was also committed to providing equal opportunities and dignity to every individual.
According to Gupta, social harmony, equality and dignity would provide a strong foundation for achieving the goal of a developed India.
The programme was attended by BJP national president Nitin Nabin, BJP SC Morcha national president Shivesh Kumar Ram, BJP national vice-president Lal Singh, Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra and former BJP national general secretary Dushyant Gautam, among others.
