All India Muslim Jamaat president Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi has hit out at Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, accusing him of mocking the BJP-led alliance in Uttar Pradesh and calling him a “BJP agent”.
The remarks came after Yadav claimed on X that the BJP was preparing to distribute seats among its allies in anticipation of a defeat in the next Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.
Yadav alleged that the BJP was working on a seat-sharing formula under pressure from the PDA coalition and cited purported allocations of 73 seats for the RLD, 39 for the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, 31 for the Nishad Party and 19 for Apna Dal.
He argued that the proposed distribution was less than half the parties’ share based on the PDA’s population and would therefore fail.
Reacting to the post, Shahabuddin told IANS that Yadav was behaving as though he had the authority to decide the BJP alliance’s seat-sharing arrangement.
“Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav is making a mockery of the BJP alliance’s seat-sharing arrangement; he allocated tickets for Anupriya Patel, Jayant Chaudhary, and OP Rajbhar as if he were the chairman of the BJP alliance himself,” he said.
The cleric further alleged that Yadav’s political positions were inconsistent, claiming he had previously maintained that the SP chief finalised his agenda with the BJP.
Shahabuddin also criticised Yadav over his interventions during the recently concluded Monsoon Session of Parliament. He alleged that the SP leader did not raise issues concerning students and instead focused on the alleged theft of donations to the Ram Temple.
Referring to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, he claimed that Yadav had spoken on the issue for only the first two-and-a-half minutes before moving on to what he described as unrelated matters.
On the Enforcement Directorate’s raids at properties linked to jailed former MP Azam Khan, Shahabuddin said such action should be viewed as a legal process rather than through a religious lens.
“The ED raids the houses of Hindus as well, including corporates, so it should not be seen from that point,” he said, adding that the agency may have acted on inputs concerning documents, bank transactions or audit records.
