Patna, August 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
RJD Working President and Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday launched a broad attack on the state government over prohibition, examination paper leaks, employment and law and order after returning to Patna from Delhi.
Speaking to reporters at Patna Airport, Tejashwi described Bihar’s decade-old liquor prohibition policy as a “complete failure” and alleged that an organised liquor racket was operating with the involvement of people in positions of power.
Questioning the effectiveness of the ban, he claimed that liquor from different brands was still being delivered to people’s homes. Asked whether the prohibition law should be reviewed, he said the question should instead be put to Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
Tejashwi also accused the government of failing to prevent repeated examination and recruitment paper leaks, alleging that Bihar was becoming the “capital of paper leaks”. He claimed that students were being denied a fair opportunity because recruitment examinations were repeatedly affected by alleged leaks.
The RJD leader also criticised the education system and questioned the alleged use of force during student protests.
Referring to the recent Siwan incident involving an AK-47, Tejashwi questioned who had ordered the firing and alleged that the government had taken no significant action beyond dismissing a constable. The RJD has announced a march to Raj Bhavan in Patna on August 19 over the issue.
Tejashwi said party leaders would meet the Governor and submit a memorandum. He claimed that the RJD had earlier met Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar and sought accountability, but alleged that neither the concerned Superintendent of Police had been suspended nor any major action taken.
He also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reference to “Urban Naxals” in his Independence Day address, calling the terminology inappropriate for a Prime Minister and drawing a comparison with protesting farmers.
On the NEET controversy, Tejashwi demanded an apology to students and sought clarity on the Union government’s measures to prevent examination irregularities. He also questioned whether the Prime Minister could guarantee that there would be no question paper leaks in future NEET examinations.
On employment, Tejashwi accused the BJP of failing to fulfil its job-related promises, alleging that the party had promised one crore jobs but had not delivered even a fraction of that figure.
His remarks come amid a wider political confrontation in Bihar over prohibition, examination integrity, student protests, law and order and employment, with the RJD preparing to raise several of these issues before the Governor on August 19.
