A coach of the Madhupur Shravani Mela Special train derailed in Jharkhand early Sunday, triggering brief panic among passengers but causing no injuries, railway officials said.
Train No. 08895 was travelling towards Madhupur on the Silli-Bokaro section at around 2.30 a.m. when its third coach from the engine went off the tracks near railway pole number 354/SA4. A large number of Kanwariyas were travelling on the train at the time.
The derailment brought the train to an abrupt halt. All passengers were reported safe, and no casualties were reported.
Railway officials, along with teams of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), reached the site after receiving information about the incident. A technical team was also deployed to undertake restoration work.
The derailed coach was brought back onto the tracks but was not permitted to continue its journey as a precautionary measure. It was subsequently stationed at the Muri yard, while the Kanwariyas travelling in the coach were safely evacuated.
The incident temporarily disrupted rail traffic on the affected section, prompting railway authorities to divert or alter the routes of several trains. Repair work on the damaged portion of the track was undertaken simultaneously.
Railway personnel completed the restoration work at around 5.15 a.m., following which train operations on the Bokaro section resumed and normal movement was gradually restored.
An investigation has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the derailment. Officials are examining the condition of the track and other technical aspects as part of the inquiry.
