A large number of women participated enthusiastically in a Teej celebration organised by Amargrh MLA Prof. Jaswant Singh Gajjan Majra, with the event bringing together Punjabi cultural traditions and discussions on women’s welfare and development.
The celebration was marked by colourful traditional attire, folk songs and cultural performances, reflecting the cultural significance of Teej in Punjab.
Alongside the festivities, women participating in the event discussed the Punjab government’s ‘Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’. The participants said the scheme had placed greater focus on issues concerning women’s everyday needs, financial support and dignity.
Launched in July 2026, the scheme provides monthly financial assistance to women.
Several women at the event said they viewed the initiative as an important recognition of their economic and social needs. They also discussed various government schemes and development projects being undertaken in the Amargrh constituency.
Addressing the gathering, Gajjan Majra said Teej was more than a festival and represented the happiness, dignity and cultural heritage associated with Punjab’s women and daughters.
He said the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, was working towards women’s empowerment while also accelerating development in both rural and urban areas.
The MLA claimed that the pace of development in Amargrh had increased consistently and said projects worth crores of rupees were underway to provide canal water to farmers.
The gathering also saw discussions about Punjab’s political developments and the upcoming elections. Some women participating in the event expressed support for giving the incumbent government another opportunity, saying a government that delivers on development should be re-elected.
The event highlighted the growing participation of women in discussions surrounding government schemes, local development and Punjab’s political future, alongside their traditional role in community and cultural celebrations.
