Prominent bullion trader Gopal Das Soni, 53, and his wife Rekhabai were killed in a road accident near Panth Piplai on the Ujjain-Indore highway, police said. A young girl travelling with the couple sustained serious injuries and was referred to Indore for advanced treatment.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon when Soni, a resident of Agar Malwa, was travelling with his wife and the girl to Indore to purchase merchandise and meet their son.
According to police, the family had left home around 9 a.m. and was passing through the Nanakheda police station area near Panth Piplai around noon when their car allegedly lost control at high speed.
The vehicle first hit a road divider before veering off the road and crashing into the rear of a parked truck. The impact severely damaged the front portion of the car and trapped the occupants inside.
Nanakheda police reached the spot after receiving information about the accident and rescued the occupants from the wreckage. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Soni and Rekhabai dead on arrival.
The injured girl was initially provided treatment before being referred to a higher medical facility in Indore.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accident. Officials are examining factors including the vehicle’s speed, road conditions and the sequence of events before the crash.
The deaths of the couple have sent shockwaves through Agar Malwa, with members of the bullion trading community and local residents expressing grief over the sudden loss.
Authorities continue to investigate the accident while the injured girl remains under medical care.
