Yemeni Government Forces Launch 181 Military Operations Against Houthis in 24 Hours

Sanaa, August 16, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Yemeni government forces said on Sunday that they had carried out 181 military operations against Houthi positions in areas controlled by the group over the past 24 hours, signalling a sharp escalation in the country’s ongoing conflict.

Government military spokesperson Majid al-Nuzaili said in a statement posted on X that the operations involved drones, artillery and rocket launchers targeting Houthi positions, weapons depots, military vehicles and other facilities allegedly used to launch attacks.

According to al-Nuzaili, the operations were conducted across seven provinces and resulted in dozens of Houthi fighters being killed or wounded, while military equipment was also destroyed. He did not provide a specific casualty figure.

The spokesperson said the strikes were launched in response to what he described as a recent wave of Houthi attacks targeting government forces, civilian infrastructure, economic facilities and ports.

Meanwhile, the Houthis reportedly attacked the government-held city of Marib in the oil-rich Marib province on Saturday evening. Pro-government media reported that three ballistic missiles were fired towards neighbourhoods in the city.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage. Residents told Xinhua that they heard several loud explosions across Marib around the time of the reported missile strikes.

The Houthis have intensified missile and drone attacks in recent weeks against government-held areas in Yemen and targets in neighbouring Saudi Arabia, a major supporter of the Yemeni government.

The group announced a maritime ban on Saudi shipping on July 20 and has since claimed attacks on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea as well as energy facilities inside Saudi Arabia.

Yemen has remained embroiled in conflict since late 2014, when the Houthis seized large parts of northern Yemen, including the capital Sanaa. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 in support of the internationally recognised Yemeni government.
