Joint security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Sunday after reports of suspicious movement by unidentified persons, officials said.
The operation was launched in the Jophar area of Ramnagar following intelligence inputs suggesting that two to three unidentified individuals had been seen in the vicinity.
Teams from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, its Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Army cordoned off the area and began combing operations. The search was underway, officials said.
The operation comes amid intensified security and anti-terror measures across the Jammu region following inputs about possible movement of terrorists. Security forces have maintained heightened vigilance across Jammu and Kashmir as the security arrangements put in place for Independence Day remain active.
The Army, J&K Police, including the SOG, and central paramilitary forces have been conducting joint area-domination and search operations across several districts.
Recently, security forces launched a major search operation after a video surfaced showing four suspected foreign and local terrorists allegedly climbing Ramtund Peak in Doda district. As the mountain belt is located close to the Seoj Dhar ridge linking Doda with Udhampur, reinforcements were deployed across district boundaries to prevent possible movement through the dense forest terrain.
In Rajouri, security forces have intensified operations in the Gambhir Mughlan and Dorimal forests in the Manjakote sector. Drones, helicopters and sniffer dogs are being used to search natural cave systems where suspected foreign terrorists are believed to be hiding.
In Poonch, forces conducted a CASO covering the forest villages of Dhara Sangla, Gujjar Naar and Kherowali Dhok. During operations in the area, security personnel recovered concealed logistics supplies, including winter blankets, gas stoves and food items, officials said.
Security has also been strengthened along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) through Ramban and Nagrota. Joint teams of local police and the Border Security Force (BSF) are conducting vehicle checks, random cordon exercises and intensified checkpoint surveillance along the key transit route.
